Both residential and commercial buildings could qualify for the energy-efficient real estate tax reduction.
Qualified buildings must be determined to be energy-efficient buildings by a qualified licensed engineer or contractor who is not related to the applicant, as required by Section 58.1-3221.2 of the Code of Virginia. The program reduces the real estate tax by $0.15 per $100 for buildings certified as energy-efficient.
