The mission of the Real Estate Assessor's Office is to annually value all real estate in the city of Virginia Beach with fairness and equity, in compliance with Virginia State Law and Virginia Beach City Code.
In accordance with Code of Virginia Title 58.1-3330, property owners will be sent a reassessment notice mailed by March 1 of each year.
Upon request, hearings will be held to review your assessment from March to April 30 of each year. The Board of Equalization will hold hearings based on completed applications submitted by June 30.
If you are interested in evaluating the accuracy or fairness of your assessment, please take time to review the Assessment Process, which conveys the reasons for property assessments. It also gives a brief explanation of the appraisal methods used in valuing property for assessment purposes and an overview of how a residential neighborhood is assessed.
Additionally, an explanation of your rights and responsibilities as a property owner regarding real estate assessments in Virginia Beach are provided.
The Annual Report details actual and projected data for the FY 2026 reassessment, as well as pertinent data compared to previous year’s projections included in the FY 2026 Annual Report.
